Since 1997 Energy Share has sponsored an annual art contest for all fourth grade students in Montana.
The purpose is to raise awareness among and educate elementary school children about Energy Share and why it exists. It is also Energy Share’s hope that through its art contest more families will become aware of the need for and existence of heating assistance among the low-income in our state.

2026-2027 Guidelines
Teachers: When submitting entries please send an email to contactus@energysharemt.com with the following information:
- Your name
- School name (or state if it’s a home school), mailing address and phone number
- Number of students in your class
- We strongly advise you to get tracking of the envelope when you mail the entries in, as they have been lost in transit in past years.
- All entries must be postmarked on or before November 21, 2025. There are ten offices across the state that are taking art contest entries. To determine which office you should send yours to, please email us at the email address above.
Winners will be announced no later than February 15th, 2027.
- Fourth grade students should draw a picture of what Energy Share means to them. This could be a picture of people or a person who is in need of Energy Share help or who has just received help from Energy Share. Past winners are on Energy Share’s website at https://www.energysharemt.com/art-contest, and then scroll down to see past winners.
- Each picture should have the artist’s first name, grade, school and teacher’s name legibly on the front in a lower corner or on the back. If this information is not on either the front or the back of the picture, it will be disqualified.
- Pictures are to be drawn on paper that is between 8 ½”x 11” and 9”x12”. (This size ensures that no part of the picture is cut off when it is reduced to postcard size.)
- The Energy Share Local Committee will choose three pictures from all the local 4th grade entries. These pictures will then be entered in the statewide contest. The first place picture in the statewide contest will be shrunk down to postcard size and used as thank-you cards beginning July 1 for people who have made donations to Energy Share of Montana.
- At the statewide level, first prize is $75, second prize is $50 and third prize is $25 for the students. Teachers of first, second and third place winners will receive a gift card of $500, $400 and $300 respectively with the request it be used for classroom supplies. The classrooms of the three winners will get a pizza party as well!
- All entries will be the property of Energy Share of Montana.
- The first place drawing will be displayed on a billboard or banner in, or as close as possible to, the winner’s community.
